Batibouw begins today
Those blog readers who live in Belgium or in neighboring countries, have probably already heard the name Batibouw.
Batibouw is a major trade fair that brings together key Belgium-based and international players from the areas of home construction, design and renovation. Main visitors of Batibouw are people like you and me, hoping to build or renovate their dream houses. Batibouw is also a convenient way to discover just about everything that relates to house and home: be it search for your heating system installation provider, architect, or kitchen manufacturer.
Batibouw begins today, and will continue till March 7th, 2010.
Courtesy of Casius, we will be paying a visit to Batibouw in the following days. Now let me say some words about Casius, as apart from invitations to attend Batibouw, we have their offer for a session with an architect in the framework of the project called Dream Factory .
Here is what Dream Factory is about. During a 45-minute consultation, one of the Casius affiliated architects or interior designers helps you realise your building dreams by sketching and discussing extra options and possibilities. Some people want a rough idea of the cost of their building project.
If you want to talk to a Dream Factory professional, you first need to register in advance at http://dreamfactory.be. This sketching service costs 35 EUR. Make sure to bring measurements and pictures of the current situation! This will allow the architect to have all the information at hand. Given the short time frame of a consultation, it is best to limit questions to one piece/room in your home.
And now a couple of words about Casius. Casius is essentially an Internet platform which assists home owners to realize their construction and renovation projects. It does so by matching them with qualified local contractors, who provide a free quote.
Casius is also a quality label, and a guarantee that construction and renovation specialists selected through this platform, have been checked, re-checked and recommended by previous home owners who had used Casius-certified construction specialists. Such a recommendation-based assessment approach is based on Web 2.0 tools available to Casius customers.
We decided to ask Toon Vanagt, CEO of Casius and an avid social media user, to talk about Casius as well as help us navigate through Batibouw and give us some practical tips about our renovation project.
TOON, FIRST OF ALL, THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT TO OUR CROWDSOURCED HOME RENOVATION PROJECT! WE’LL BE HAPPY TO STOP BY YOUR BOOTH AT BATIBOUW. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO PRESENT AT BATIBOUW THIS YEAR?
Toon Vanagt: I co-founded Casius.com in december 1999. We launched our website in May 2000, so we are now celebrating our tenth anniversary. Because our on-line matching service is not very tangible, we had little to show at a fair. So we decided with the organisers of Batibouw to materialise the first step of every home improvement project, by facilitating access to architects and helping people to draft plans.
IS THIS GOING TO BE THE FIRST TIME FOR YOU AT BATIBOUW?
Toon Vanagt: This is my 9th year as an exhibitor. Quite a heavy schedule during 10 days! Luckily, they are filled with interesting encounters and lots of new contacts & ideas.
Watch a video (in Dutch) to get a flavor of Toon’s previous Dream Factory events at Batibouw
DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR OUR READERS ON HOW TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THIS EVENT OF MASSIVE SCALE AND TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF IT?
Toon Vanagt: Plan ahead on the Batibouw.com website. Select which type of products are of interest to you. Belgium’s largest construction fair is organised around straightforward ‘themes’ (heating, solar panels, bathroom, kitchen, outdoor, swimming pools, sauna etc…) which are gathered in the same hall.
A little piece of advice for ladies: don’t wear high heals! Go for comfy shoes, since there are kilometers of hard concrete hallways to overcome in order to get the inspiration and information your are looking for! 🙂
And don’t forget, Batibouw is on till 11 pm on March 4th!
AND FINALLY, DO YOU HAVE ANY USEFUL TIPS FOR US WHILE WE ARE UNDERTAKING OUR HOME RENOVATION PROJECT?
Toon Vanagt: Plenty, but I’ll give my feedback and suggestions in the comments on your blog and during your visit in our booth 🙂
